“I grew up around these parts, born and raised.
Seen a lot of bad things too. Hell, did a lot of bad things,
Before I became the law, I mean.
I ain’t no angel; never claimed to be one neither.
I do what I’ve gotta do, however, I’ve gotta do it.
My methods ain’t always popular, but I’ve learned to live with that
You ain’t gonna please everyone.
Not if you’re doing the job the right.
But, if I had to guess I would say that all and all the people around here like me alright.
Hard to believe it’s been twenty-five years under the white hat.
My father was a law man. Grandfather too, and his father before him.
I guess you could say I was destine to it. If there is such a thing.
I don’t know … I shudder to think what the next twenty- five will be like.
There is a different breed of evil among us now.
A darkness in people that I ain’t never seen before.
I wonder what the old-timers would have made of it
Hell, I don’t know what to make of it.
In the end, we all go back into the dust from which we came.
And when it’s all said and done and the weighing is finished
Some will go up and receive their rewards and the rest of us will go down into nothing
And that is that as they say. Anyways, I guess I had better get to it.
It’s already ninety-degrees in the shade, and it ain’t even 10:00 o’clock yet
When the temperature rises like this it brings out the devil in people.
It’s always bad this time of year, but this year is different, worse than the other years
There’s a black cloud out there hovering on the horizon
It’s coming, but I’ll be alright.
I’ll be right here waiting on it.”
